Whoa, we thought this whole Megxit thing was settled, but this cold war of the roses just got HOT again!
As our readers know, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have run an incredibly successful Instagram account called Sussex Royal over the past couple years, climbing until they are now neck and neck in followers with the already established Kensington Royal account of Prince William and Kate Middleton. (As of this writing, Sussex Royal is at 11,208,834 followers, Kensington is edging them out by less than a fifth of a percent with 11,222,069.)
Harry and Meghan turned Sussex Royal into an incredibly valuable brand, reportedly spending tens thousands of dollars registering the name for a website using the same moniker.
However, they now may no longer be allowed to use it!
According to a bombshell report from DailyMail.com, the Duke and Duchess are being told they will have to start over and completely re-brand their new charity initiative, the enterprise for which they’ve supposedly been working to make tons of business connections lately.
The outlet says Queen Elizabeth, along with the rest of the senior members of The Firm, have — after a long discussion on the matter — decided since Harry and Meghan aren’t going to be members of the Royal we, they can no longer use the terminology.
Yes, they are still the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. No, they are NOT Royal. Whoa.
Harry and Meghan has already registered the name Sussex Royal for use in a variety of branded products, including clothing, stationery, school supplies, and much more. So whereas the loss of HRH titles was more a formality, in this case they’re losing out on quite a bit of actual financial value.
However, according to the Mail‘s source, Harry and Meghan were involved in the decision, ultimately being forced to agree they should not be able to market their status as Royals — something Her Majesty has never allowed working members of the family to do either.
The insider explained:
“In many ways this is inevitable given their decision to step down, but it must surely come as a blow to the couple as they have invested everything into the Sussex Royal brand The Queen would have had little choice, however. The Sussexes’ original plan — of being half-in, half-out working royals — was never going to work. Obviously, as the Queen has made clear, they are still much-loved members of her family. But if they aren’t carrying out official duties and are now seeking other commercial opportunities, they simply cannot be allowed to market themselves as royals.”
So maybe this isn’t so much a surprise attack but rather one of those “being handed the brandy and the revolver” deals.
What do YOU think of the last-minute change of the Megxit deal by the Queen? Shrewd? Or simply inevitable??
